Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Director of Aviation Business who is ready to rise to the next level in their career. As the Director, you will oversee the management of Iridium Aviation Go to Market & Strategy. This will include sales opportunities for the aviation sector, guiding partner strategy for aviation manufacturers and service partners, providing thought leadership for aviation sector. You will also support aviation account teams in US and around the world and provide strategic support to the VP&GM Americas as well as to executive management at Iridium, for both legacy and Certus Services, and for new business activities. Furthermore, you will be responsible for steering the strategic direction of the aviation line of business through business development activities, strategic proposition management and creating effective communications and interactions amongst regional sales and other parts of the organization. What You'll Do:

    Foster and develop a highly effective team of individuals that excel at Sales, Aviation, Network Engineering, Product Line Management, Operations, and Finance to enable increased sales to the aviation customers and drive best practices and consistency.
  • Update/Develop/Lead & Manage the commercial aspects of Iridium's aviation business including pricing and distribution strategy/programs and building relationships with OEM aircraft manufactures and aircraft operators.
  • Perform market research and competitive analysis, including positioning, pricing/rate plans, sales strategy and market share forecast to assist in defining the strategy for the aviation product and service portfolio.
  • Establish functional requirement documents and product specifications for the product development, network, and systems operations teams to design and develop products and solutions.
  • Develop detailed business case(s), market demand description, product definition, features and functionality for executive presentations and roadmap decision making
  • Provide support to internal and external sales teams via technical presentations, sales training material, white papers, product demonstrations, and other customer engagements.
  • Craft solutions for feature enhancement requests and defects for all Iridium aviation products and services. Triage and prioritize enhancements for implementation while defining and documenting detailed requirements and business case for development.
  • Lead (with support) industry initiatives including ICAO, RTCA, and other industry body meetings where appropriate
  • Develop a feedback loop for opportunities with Business Development, Engineering, Implementation and Marketing.

  • Capable of servings as the aviation "voice of the market" by being a strong motivator and be able to confidently drive discussions and tailor your communication style to a wide range of audiences on behalf of Iridium at industry meetings, conferences and aviation working groups.
  • Have a people-oriented mentality, driving cross-functional team building and act as a source of direction for your team by exemplifying commitment to your team's goals.
  • Possess the creativity, resourcefulness, and decisiveness needed to manage risks and respond to critical situations and corporate-wide strategic initiatives
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Excellent prioritization skills and the ability to effectively coordinate the activities of multiple groups with a strong sense of urgency and ability to improvise and solve complex problems.
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

Things You Must Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Significant Commercial and/or sales support experience
  • 15+ years of product management and/or sales management experience
  • Aviation Market and/or Air Traffic Management knowledge essential
  • People management experience required

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Experience in aeronautical satellite communications products and/or services preferred
  • Knowledge of international negotiations and business processes a plus.
  • Advanced computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite and CRM applications.

We'll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel (including international travel) up to 20%.
