Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a motivated Software Developer I to join our team of engineers supporting our real time operations. This is a great opportunity for someone who has a passion for development and an interest in space. This position is part of a team providing mission critical software applications to support the Iridium Satellite Operations Center's real-time team. In this role, you'll gain valuable experience and knowledge while working in a dynamic environment that requires new and innovative tools to solve and provide insight to complex scenarios, while maintaining the mission for our customers. The development projects will encompass a broad range of skills, ranging from small scripts to large scale software applications.

What You'll Do:

    Contribute to the team that is responsible for systems engineering to maintain, re-imagine, and develop new processes, architectures, and software tools focused on continuous process improvement and more efficient operations
  • Aid in the development of existing operational tools and software in order to provide streamlined, automated, and mechanized satellite ground operations, with a focus on creating an integrated tool suite versus many isolated applications
  • Work with a small team of Satellite Operations and Development Engineers to support maintenance of software development standards and best practices
  • Participate in the software configuration management repository, as well as the software development, test, and build environments
  • Coordinate with software and hardware engineers from other teams for software installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting
  • Provide support, real-time investigation and troubleshooting for all real-time operations anomalies related to the mission critical real-time software applications

Things You Must Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 0-2 years of relevant software development experience
  • The applicant must be proficient in general programming capabilities and be familiar with a LINUX operating system, as well as standard PC usage and applications.

  • Knowledge of and experience with aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle process

  • Knowledge of Full-Stack Web Application Development

    • Testing (Jest, Mocha)
    • Database (MongoDB, MySQL)
    • API (RESTful Web Services)
  • Familiarity with Perl, ActiveMQ, Spring Boot, Spring, Redis, Docker, Atlassian Tool Suite
