Company Overview
Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS)
With nearly 12,000 employees, and a budget of close to $1.2 billion, the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is one of the largest state agencies in Maryland. Our functions include the operation of three correctional divisions that total 27 facilities, and 45 parole and probation supervision offices. DPSCS is also responsible for maintenance of Maryland’s Criminal Justice Information Repository, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions, the Emergency Number Systems Board and many other valuable criminal justice functions. Administrative functions such as human resources and procurement play a large role in the operations of this agency as well. A full list of our agencies/offices and a link to their subsequent pages is found below.

Our primary objective, as outlined in our mission and vision, is to keep communities safe so that all Marylanders can enjoy living and working in the state. We are achieving this through the increased security of our institutions and by supplying offenders and ex-offenders the tools necessary to stay out of the criminal justice system. We are also working together with partner agencies to not only share important intelligence information that can reduce crime and violence, but to perform tasks needed by our neighboring communities that save tax payer dollars and improve the sustainability of Maryland’s natural resources.
