Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Satellite Operations Support Senior Engineer to join our Mission Real-Time Operations Team. As a Senior Engineer, you'll be responsible for working independently to provide critical ground and satellite operations support including developing, testing and implementing processes, procedures, checklists and software tools for ground and satellite operations. Working in this role, you'll gain valuable experience performing anomaly and issue resolution, troubleshooting, and identifying root cause and determining corrective actions. Candidate will work normal business hours and provide 24x7 on-call support.

What You'll Do:

    Identify and autonomously implement ideas, solutions, processes, procedures, and checklists focused on continuous process improvement, more efficient operations, and reduced service impacts
  • Maintain existing operational tool suite and develop new operational software tools and scripts of medium to high complexity, focusing on streamlined automated and mechanized satellite ground operations
  • Track, trend and analyze potential problems & anomalous conditions that may affect the ground system, HW, SW, operational LANs, and satellites
  • Investigate and resolve issues where situations require an in-depth evaluation of factors that have been discovered or referred by operations crews.
  • Support cross-functional efforts and special operations projects with small team sizes spanning multiple Iridium groups with minimal external interfaces.
  • Plan and execute Mission Operations Acceptance Testing for all ground software builds.
  • Support all satellite software upgrades.
  • Facilitate crew training for recurring scenarios, ops affecting upgrades, and the Operational Crew Training and Certification process.

  • Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others
  • Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

Things You Must Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 8+ years of experience; or an equivalent combination of work experience in satellite operations and/or software development.
  • Proficiency in a LINUX operating system, as well as standard PC usage and applications.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Python, Java, Javascript

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Working knowledge of satellite or ground operations, background in troubleshooting and problem solving, and working under tight time constraints.
  • Proficiency in several programming languages (perl, python, java, and javascript) and experience developing software tools and applications.
  • Interest and ability in learning new technologies, as role will be working in a dynamic and evolving operational environment which at times requires rapid response from the support and development functions.
