Description

Location:

The Edwardsville, IL office is looking for a Field Services Engineer with 0 - 2 years of experience in bridge related inspection work.

Responsibilities:

  • Function as a Team Member for bridge condition inspection projects;
  • Participate with field inspections and assist with the preparation of inspection reports with recommendations for maintenance and repair for all types and sizes of highway and railroad bridges, including fixed and movable bridges;
  • Assist with the development of repair plans for documented structural deficiencies;
  • Assist in monitoring new bridge construction and/or bridge rehabilitation projects; and
  • Assist with the performance of special inspections to gather data required for load capacity ratings and/or to respond to emergency situations.

Education and Licensure Requirements:

  • A minimum of a BS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university;
  • Coursework focus on structural engineering is preferred;
  • EIT certification is preferred;
  • Must be able to pass NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges and NHI 130078 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges; and
  • Must be able to pass a security background check for e-RAILSAFE and TWIC.

Skills:

  • Ability to work in a team environment on bridge related projects;
  • Should have an understanding of structural engineering fundamentals; such as the identification of basic load paths and how loads affect structural components;
  • Physically capable of climbing structural members, ladders and stairways, as well as carrying gear bags/equipment as necessary;
  • Comfortable working at high elevations on walkways, platforms or within access equipment (snoopers and manlifts);
  • Willing to utilize specialized equipment and techniques for industrial rope access inspections (training will be provided);
  • Willing to utilize specialized equipment and techniques to perform non-destructive testing (e.g., dye penetration, magnetic particle, ultrasonic testing, etc.) (training will be provided); and
  • Must have a good command of the English language with good oral and written communication skills. Technical writing proficiency is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Position requires a combination of both office and field duties;
  • Position requires a varying amount of travel with overnight stays; most inspection assignments require one to two weeks of field work; expected travel ranges up to 40% of time; and
  • Position involves working conditions such as climbing on superstructures and substructures of bridges and being exposed to severe weather conditions.
