Senior Business Manager - Community Finance

External Affairs works with many external and internal stakeholders to envision and create a world of greater socioeconomic opportunity through advocating for an inclusive society, building thriving communities, and creating financial tools that enrich lives. Our teams include Communications, Community Impact and Investment, Community Finance, CRA Strategy and Program Management, the Government and Political Affairs Group, Regulatory Relations, and Strategy and Engagement. Through our teams, we have unparalleled access to a diverse group of motivated changemakers similarly focused on the ingredients for a more perfect future.

Our Community Finance (CF) team is one of the top providers of affordable housing financing in banking. Since its inception, Capital One has provided almost $17 billion in debt and equity financing for affordable housing, yielding more than 160,000 affordable housing units. We focus on innovation and opportunity -- on long term well being for our associates, customers, and communities. We dream in disruption -- at scale -- especially for those who have been underserved.

Community Finance is on a multi-stage journey to reimagine the way it operates through a more strategic approach to its core work and advocacy efforts, next-generation analytical and reporting capabilities, and innovation that leverages Capital One's scale and influence. This combination of being a well-managed, data-driven organization with core strengths in financing affordable housing is what will help distinguish Community Finance from its peers and deepen our impact.

The Innovation & Analytics (I&A) team within Community Finance drives innovation, analytics, and process improvements; and spearheads the upfront, strategic thinking of new initiatives. This includes framing and analyzing complex problems, assessing current state, designing target state solutions, developing actionable recommendations, and supporting initial implementation. The team generates ideas, insights, and strategic plans that guide decision-making on key initiatives and new products.

The I&A team is looking for a Senior Manager, Business Analysis to lead analysis to help identify, evaluate, and synthesize strategic opportunities for Community Finance. Analyses will be responsive to business needs and can include: market insights - inclusive of industry trends, macroeconomic trends, competitive landscaping, and resident & community needs; impact assessments of CF's work; evaluation of innovations and strategic opportunities. All analyses will have an overarching focus on synthesizing insights to drive an actionable CF strategy.

In this role you will be working on a team that is truly changing banking for good, driving insights and analysis for Capital One's affordable housing portfolio. You will have the opportunity to help guide the CF team toward its vision of "Building inclusive, thriving, resident-centered communities that catalyze opportunity and promote well-being".

In this role, you'll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Strategic & analytic orientation: You should have a proven track record of decision-making and problem-solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative and qualitative orientation, as you will both structure and execute analyses to drive actionable insights..

  • Strong business judgment and leadership: You'll have an end-to-end understanding of both existing and potential CF products and offerings, how they fit into the larger ecosystem, and be able to anticipate impacts from changes internal and external to CF and Capital One. You'll work closely with team members across CF and EA to understand the tradeoffs of decisions and how they impact both external residents/communities, and our business. You'll synthesize your insights into actionable strategies that will define the priorities and ultimately drive success for CF, in the face of a shifting dynamic landscape.

  • Executive communication skills: You will leverage impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • Clear results orientation: You will display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. You should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment.

  • Partnership: You will work closely with colleagues across Capital One for both input on insights, and to drive alignment in approaches across the organization.

We want you if you are:

  • Impact-driven. You dream big. You desire to make the world a better place, and you get energy from working with others with similar passions to accomplish big, bold goals.

  • Analytical. You are a problem-solver. You take a structured approach to breaking down complex problems into manageable pieces, and prioritizing the areas of highest leverage. You're comfortable approaching challenging questions, and leverage data and research to drive your thinking.

  • Intellectually Curious and a Learner. You ask why, you explore, you're not afraid to blurt out your crazy idea or follow a lead for weeks to find someone with an answer. You are comfortable with ambiguity, and a seeker of new challenges. You have a hunger to learn new things, all while exhibiting humility when the time comes to ask for help

  • A Do-er. You're biased toward action, you try things and sometimes you fail. You can get around roadblocks and stay focused on Enterprise goals. You're well organized, able to multitask and able to prioritize your work.

  • A Communicator & Influencer. You can communicate complex ideas clearly regardless of your audience. You always can rally associates to work with you.

  • Passionate & Customer Focused. You have a desire and ability to connect with our external and internal customers and stakeholders to fully understand their needs. You care about doing what's best (not what's easiest) for the community and for Capital One's associates and business. You don't shy away from hard conversations or nuanced decision making, in your drive toward the best outcomes.

  • A Team Player. You enjoy working with diverse people and driving the team toward a common goal. You have the ability to put the team before yourself and establish long-lasting relationships.
