I. General Summary

The Director of Human Resources oversees all aspects of Human Resources operations, policies, and processes for the organization. The Human Resources Director advises and supports leadership in the areas of performance management, employment law, compliance, and employee engagement.

II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

1. Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues

2. Develops and implements HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall system business strategy

3. Develops and monitors overall HR strategies, systems, tactics and procedures across the organization

4. Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to leadership

5. Provides guidance on compensation and benefits administration, including merit processes, open enrollment, and benefits communication.

Qualifications

III. Education & Experience

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. A Master's Degree in Industrial/Labor Relations, Human Resources Management, or related field preferred. Professional certification as PHR or SPHR through SHRM preferred.

2. A minimum of eight (8) years of experience managing and directing the activities of professional and/or managerial level human resources staff required. This experience should reflect a strong and diverse generalist background to include both employee and labor relations. Union experience is highly preferred, with knowledge of labor activities in a healthcare environment

IV. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. In depth knowledge of state and federal employment laws including the National Labor Relations Act.

2. Strong customer excellence orientation, good interpersonal, listening, verbal and written communication skills are required to work effectively with various levels of employees and management staff. Must also possess demonstrated effective collaborative skills in working with other HR functions to achieve organizational objectives.

3. Demonstrated ability to lead others through influence, collaboration and change management.

4. The successful candidate for this job will have an understanding of quality process improvement principles, participative management practices, systems perspective and learning organization principles as a foundation for proactive and positive employee relations.

5. Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required.

6. Work is performed in a standard, office environment.
