Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI Technologies, Inc. is hiring a summer Legal Intern to join our team in Sparks, MD. The intern will work under the supervision of KCI's Corporate Counsel to gain exposure to real-world legal assignments and daily tasks. Summer interns will work a 40-hour week, with at least 10 weeks of work required from mid-May to the end of August.

KCI is an engineering, consulting and construction firm serving clients throughout the United States and the Legal Department provides advice and guidance in a wide variety of legal areas, including, but not limited to, contracts, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, labor/employment, intellectual property, and corporate governance.

Under the direction of Corporate Counsel, the Legal Intern may be provided assignments in any of these areas of law, with specific tasks likely to include assisting with:

    Reviewing and analyzing contracts, including Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreements, Team Agreements, and other Professional Services Agreements.
  • Drafting and maintaining template contracts.
  • Implementing a contract management solution across the company.
  • Maintaining reports on tasks undertaken by the Legal Department.
  • Responding to third-party subpoenas and other discovery responses.
  • Researching and gathering documents or data as needed.

Preferred experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctorate program at an accredited law school and completed their first year of law school by mid-May 2024.
  • Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering, environmental sciences or planning
Qualifications
  • Pursuing degrees in the following fields: Business, Marketing, Computer Sciences, Human Resources, Communications, Finance or related fields
  • High School diploma
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Cumulative GPA: 2.75 or higher
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
Performance Expectations
  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Complete data entry processes and provide reporting as required
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and practices as required
  • Document new processes and update existing processes
  • Perform research into clients' industries and provide actionable steps for attracting new business, new social campaigns, etc.
  • Provide on-time delivery of project expectations with favorable feedback
  • Review data as needed to analyze for quality, metrics and trends
