Are you fascinated by social media? Do you enjoy learning about the changing digital marketing landscape and emerging technologies? Do you want a hands-on internship where you can put your problem-solving skills to work?

Ascendium is looking for a student to support the evolution of our social communications as a Digital Communications Intern. You should love trying out new digital media tools and methodologies, get excited about data and analytics, and ideally have community management experience.

This paid internship begins June 1, 2024, and may run into the fall. You'll need to be available at least 15 hours per week during business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and have the capability to work both remotely and on-site at our Madison, Wisconsin, headquarters.

Job Responsibilities

Your day-to-day activities may include the following.

  • Support the evolution of our social communications both internally and externally.
  • Learning and becoming proficient in the tools we use to manage our social media accounts.
  • Helping with our social listening efforts.
  • Researching and presenting ideas for engaging our audiences.
  • Helping gather data on our social media channels and implement updates based on that data.
  • Helping manage our websites, support SEO/SEM strategies, create paid digital ads, and leverage Google Analytics.
  • Helping set up and manage virtual events.
  • Following and helping develop, implement, and maintain team processes and procedures.
  • Participating in meetings and presentations related to digital communications efforts.
  • Providing daily and weekly status updates to the digital communications manager.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements

A highly qualified candidate will possess the following.

  • Experience or training in marketing, social media, digital communications, or a related field.
  • Some experience with digital marketing and social media channel management.
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to digital and social media advancements.
  • Ability to adapt to changes with digital platforms, tools, and trends.
  • Knowledge of social media management and listening tools. (This is a plus but not a requirement.)
  • Experience with Google products. (This is a plus but not a requirement.)
  • Experience with design software. (This is a plus but not a requirement.)
  • Experience with artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. (This is a plus but not a requirement.)
  • Effective research and information gathering skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to contribute as a positive member of a team.
