GIS Specialist I

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation

Location: Remote within Service Territories

(DE, PA, MD, VA, OH, NC, GA, FL)

Responsibility for exhibiting Chesapeake Utilities Corporation's Mission, Vision and Values, regarding external customers, agencies, vendors, internal departments and co-workers. This position is responsible for coordination and preparation and processing of information for the Geographic Information System (GIS). Assisting with all GIS mapping functions including production and editing of digital utility infrastructure detail, data bases, GIS layers, tabular data, and files translation as required in the development of various digital map products. Ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of the electric system and support replacement programs.

What you'll be working on...

  • Performing creation, conversion, translation, migration, and import of GIS data from various sources.
  • Performing editing, quality control, data manipulation and analysis functions to digital map data.
  • Integrating other system asset management programs into the GIS.
  • Developing specific quality assurance procedures, standards, and protocols.
  • Ensuring digital media and related source materials are archived and properly stored.
  • Contributing in gathering, creating, compiling, and maintaining metadata files.
  • Communicating all production related concerns and inquiries to the supervisor.
  • Processing, updating and correcting digital base map data for geospatial applications.
  • Applying advanced digital cartographic and/or GIS principles in all efforts.
  • Adhering to Quality Control protocols as directed.
  • Conducting or contributing in system preparation, project layout, and design activities.
  • Maintaining all related data and map products.
  • Assisting in distribution system operations.
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual DOT/PHMSA Reports.
  • Assisting with other duties as assigned.

Who you are...

  • You hold an Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • You have one to three years of prior work experience in a similar role.
  • You have knowledge of ArcGIS 10, ArcGIS Pro, and are able to perform edits and updates to mapping system as required.
  • You have knowledge of ArcCatalog and ESRI geodatabase format.
  • You have knowledge of materials, software, and equipment used for drafting, surveying, construction and electronic mapping.
  • You are proficient in the use of standard business software (Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows).
  • You possess excellent communication and customer relation skills.
  • You can thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment.
  • You have excellent record keeping skills.
  • You have a normal level of visual and hearing ability.
  • You have a Valid Driver's License.
  • You are familiar with Company and industry standards, designs and practices.
  • You are able to follow Company safety rules, regulations, procedures, policies and manuals.
  • You perform work tasks and activities in a safe and conscientious manner.
