Job Description

We are seeking a Sr. Biostatistician. The Cancer Center fosters team science efforts, providing an environment where statisticians can advance standard statistical pipelines and cutting-edge quantitative science methodologies for state-of-art clinical studies. Thus, the members of the biostatistics shared resource have strong collaborations with Cancer Center investigators and quantitative science departments in the broader Johns Hopkins University, including the Departments of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the Bloomberg School of Public Health. This collaborative, transdisciplinary research and educational environment promoted by the Cancer Center and the broader Johns Hopkins University fosters a diverse and inclusive community, featuring strong mentorship and a career-path for staff statisticians.


This individual is responsible for the statistical design and analysis of clinical and laboratory studies. Coordinates the use of standard and non-standard biostatistics or bioinformatics methodologies for the design of studies and the production of statistical analyses. Collaborates with investigators in the preparation of presentations and publications. Functions largely independently to solve problems posed by clinical and laboratory investigators with supervision by faculty members or Principal Biostatisticians.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consults with clinical and laboratory investigators to determine their needs with respect to statistical design of studies and proposes appropriate designs.
  • Recommends appropriate methodologic procedures for statistical analysis.
  • Conducts data analysis.
  • Performs sample size and power calculations, generates randomization schema.
  • Prepares written reports of statistical analyses, including relevant statistical theory, references, methods, results, and conclusions.
  • Writes statistical design, methods, and analysis sections for research proposals and clinical trial protocols.
  • Prepares interim and final reports of studies and progress reports.
  • Discusses with colleagues, investigators and supervisor the need for any additional analyses and/or special methodologic requirements.
  • Participates on the Protocol Review Committee.
  • Keep abreast of technical and academic resources related to statistical methodology relating to study design and analyses.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $64,000 - $112,200 Annually ($88,100 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
