Community Outreach to Diversity Organizations

In late 1906, a group of Alexandria's business leaders came together with the idea of forming an organization to assure business standards, to work toward better business conditions and to serve as an active voice in framing public policies affecting the business community. That organization was called the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and pioneered a new form of business representation, advocacy and service. The following year the Alexandria Chamber went on to become a founding member of the newly organized United States Chamber of Commerce.

All Faith Consortium (AFC) is an ecumenical faith-based organization, headquartered in our Nations Capitol, serving citizens in the Washington Metropolitan area and in several major cities around the country. AFC has earned a reputation as a community leader in developing programs and facilitating solutions to help empower impoverished families and individuals to become self- sufficient.

The American Society of Women Accountants is a professional organization whose mission is to enable women in all accounting and related fields to achieve their full personal, professional and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of their profession.

A-SPAN is a non-profit community-based organization whose mission is to assist every homeless person in Arlington County get off the streets and live a life of dignity. A-SPAN works with and on behalf of homeless people to secure the support and services necessary for them to lead self-sufficient and healthy lives. A-SPAN accomplishes its goal by working with homeless people, local government, business, religious and charitable institutions, and concerned individuals.

Community Centers offer something for every member of the family. From programs for adults, children, teens, and active seniors to after-school, mentoring, and sports programs, there is a variety of activities from which to choose. In addition, community centers make rooms available for community meetings, classes, socials and weddings.

We are dedicated to providing networking, information and growth resources to all sizes and kinds of businesses, agencies, institutions and organizations. Our connections to business, industry, academia, government are unparalleled.

Byte Back is a non-profit community computer training center in Northeast Washington, DC. It provides low-cost, hands-on computer training to underserved, underskilled, and underemployed residents of the metropolitan Washington, DC area. Its goal is to help close the "Digital Divide": the gap that exists between those who have access to computers and computer training, and those who do not.

C-CAP is a school-to-career program that links public high schools to the foodservice industry. Our comprehensive approach prepares students for a successful education and career.

Casey Family Services improves the lives of at-risk children and strengthens families and communities by providing high-quality and cost-effective services that advance positive child welfare practice and sound public policy.

Catholic Charities is the largest private social service organization in the Washington, D.C. area. Our mission is to strengthen the lives of those in need by giving help that empowers and hope that lasts. A new entity with a long history, Catholic Charities brings together the expertise of four outstanding social service agencies with deep roots in the community: Catholic Charities, Anchor Mental Health, the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute for people with developmental disabilities, and the Spanish Catholic Center.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington is the largest private social service agency in Washington, DC and surrounding Maryland counties. Each year, we serve 80,000 men, women and children through 50 social service programs at 26 community sites. Our programs embrace all needy members of our community, regardless of race, religion or national origin. Our work is inspired by the Gospel mandate to care for the poor, shelter the homeless and protect the oppressed.

The Child Center and Adult Services is a private, non-profit organization that provides mental health counseling to children, adults, couples, and families in Montgomery County.

JobLink is an employment program developed to bring together job seekers who desire permanent employment and businesses that need reliable employees. JobLink prepares individuals through education, training and counseling and refers qualified candidates to prospective employers.

Created in 1995, the Community Business Partnership is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. It was formed in response to an identified need for small business technical assistance and financing services, particularly to low-moderate income and disadvantaged individuals, including minorities, women and the disabled.

Most jobs now require some degree of proficiency in computer skills. A significant percentage of low-income adults do not have these skills that are prerequisites for gaining more meaningful employment, and Northern Virginia's businesses need more skilled workers. Computer C.O.R.E.'s training program addresses these needs by providing training in computer skills, personal development, and job search strategies. In addition, Computer C.O.R.E. gives free computers to its graduates so that they may continue learning and share computing access with their families.
