Delaware State University is a public, comprehensive, 1890 land-grant institution. The mission of the University is to provide for the people of Delaware and others who are admitted, meaningful and relevant education that emphasizes both the liberal and professional aspects of higher education. Within this context, the University provides educational opportunities to all qualified citizens of this state and other states at a cost consistent with the economic status of the students as a whole.

Elizabeth City State University, a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina, offers baccalaureate, graduate, and professional programs for a diverse student body. The institution's rich heritage provides a firm foundation for its educational endeavors, as well as its role in serving the needs and aspirations of individuals and society.

For over 140 years, Morgan State University has been an important part of the higher education system in Baltimore City, the State of Maryland, and the nation. Throughout its history, Morgan has served the community with distinction while meeting the educational needs of an increasingly diverse society. Its designation as Maryland's Public Urban University assures that Morgan will continue to play a prominent role in Maryland's education future.

The mission of Saint Augustine's College is to sustain a learning community in which students can prepare academically, socially and spiritually for leadership in a complex, diverse and rapidly changing world. To fulfill the mission, the faculty fosters scholarship and creativity through varied approaches to teaching and learning; the administration facilitates the enterprise by effectively garnering and managing financial and human resources; and the staff contributes to efficient operations by providing essential support services.

Saint Paul’s College, a private, church-related, coeducational institution with a Christian heritage, sustains an environment that emphasizes integrity, objectivity, resourcefulness, scholarship, and responsible citizenship. The purpose of Saint Paul’s College is to provide an academic environment that promotes the vision of the founder to educate all students, especially the underserved, with educational, cultural, spiritual, and life-long learning experiences that will enable them to lead in a technological and global society.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a land-grant, historically black college founded in 1886 as the Delaware Conference Academy. Since its beginning, the institution has had several name changes and governing bodies. It was Maryland State College from 1948 until 1970, when it became one of the five campuses that formed the University of Maryland. In 1988, it became a member of the then eleven campus (now thirteen) University of Maryland System, now known as the University System of Maryland.

The University of the District of Columbia is an urban land-grant institution. Virginia State University was founded in 1882 as the Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute, making it the first fully state supported, four-year institution of higher learning for Blacks in America. Today, Virginia State University is one of Virginia’s two land-grant institutions.
